Estimates 670,800 cases in Lahore alone : Summary to CM Punjab

The exponential spread Of COVID-19 around the globe has become a real challenge for humanity. Decision makers, including those in Pakistan, are perplexed with the ambivalent nature of the virus. Although the Government of Punjab initiated its response to combat the virus at quite an early stage by sensitizing public about its severity, enhancing the testing capacity and strengthening its hospital capacity viz-a-viz bed strength yet numerous milestones on this count have to be envisioned, planned and achieved in the days to come. COVID-19 has already been declared as a serious and imminent threat to public health requiring restriction on movement, gatherings and business-linked activities. However, public health emergency also necessitates to strike a balance the economic sustenance and prudent health interventions to save precious lives.

1. The results of the tests from Lahore show that 6% of all tested were positive with few towns showing positive as high as 14.7%. Considering this sample as a true representative of Lahore's population (11.18 million), the actual new cases during this exercise in Lahore are estimated at These cases being asymptomatic could not be reported to the health facilities but became the main source of infection and local transmission.

2. The data retrieved from various hotspots including workplaces and residential areas was comparable (5.18% vs. 6.01%). The town-wise break-up shows a value of more than 3% for all towns, except Wagha Town, and ranges between 2.11 to 9.33%, thereby, refuting the justification of zoning and smart lockdown. This means that no workplace and residential area of any town is disease-free and, as such, entire Lahore exhibits an alarmingly similar transmission pattern

3. It is also notable that while looking at the ageing break up, the most seriously hit age group is above 50 years. As reflected in the international literature, highest mortality of COVID-19 has been reported in of 55 years or above worldwide.

CPEC and Communication Barriers

by

CPEC project is basically an initiative by the Chinese Government to modernize the infrastructure in Pakistan through the construction of transportation networks, energy projects and special economic zones. The project which was established in 2013 is successfully being executed according to plan. While, the project on its own is a remarkable endeavor the mechanism at which it is operating is quite an achievement on its own.

As most of you are aware of that Pakistan and China have a discrete linguistic background and substantial cultural differences as well. Overcoming these differences and running the project smoothly is a great achievement on the behalf of the Pakistani and Chinese government. Our research focuses on the communication methods used to effectively communicate to achieve the project goals and objective regardless of the language, culture and geographical barriers. Albeit, Pakistan shares border with China, both countries have entirely different culture along with other major differences related to organizational structures, leadership and communication patterns and models.
Despite ever-growing friendship between two countries in form of strategic alliances, these differences still occur. Due to these differences, major practices related to HR, leadership, team management and communication differ and are widely studied by the researchers. These practices on the other hand impact workplace relationships in Pakistani and Chinese organizations.
One of the major aspects which are affected by these cultural differences is communication. Studying communication is important as every aspect or function involves a certain type of communication; direct or indirect. Be it the planning phase, organizing or leading and monitoring, communication with other stakeholders is inevitable. It is important for the government of both sides to focus on reducing communication barriers for smooth flow of the project work as well as timely completion of the project.

Saudi Arabia: Another Strategic Partner in CPEC or Not?

by

Importance of Belt and Road initiative is not hidden. Most of the countries know the future prospects and opportunities that will be generated under this initiative

As CPEC is the main project of Belt and Road initiative, it is already progressing thus creating better opportunities for
Pakistan. Pakistan and China are two strategic partners of this agreement however; recently, few
other countries are taking interest in CPEC to earn potential opportunities in order to capitalize
their own economic interests. Saudi Arabia and Iran are example of such actors. The economy of
Saudi Arabia is shrinking due to multiple reasons. So, there are speculations that, Saudi Arabia is
soon entering to join multi-Billion Dollar project.
According to reports, Saudi Arabia is going to make Gwader an oil City which will help Saudi
Arabia breaking economic barriers. However, Saudi Arabia's inclusion in CPEC is yet to be
finalized. Federal Minister of Planning, Development and Reforms, Khusru Bhaktiar recently
announced that, involvement of Saudi Arabia in mega projects will not be part of China-Pakistan
Economic Corridor. According to Bakhtiar, CPEC framework is bilateral agreement between
two countries China and Pakistan so, the essence of the agreement will be same and Saudi
Arabia will not enter in this framework as third party investor. He also stated that, there is chance
of potential investment from other countries as well. The economic benefits which will be
received by CPEC are hard to ignore but there is still time to take such decisions to include any
other strategic partner in CPEC. This inclusion will definitely have high impacts on China,
Pakistan and the project of CPEC.
